DIL CHAHTA HAI is remembered till date for the kind of camaraderie that Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Akshaye Khanna had shared on screen in the Farhan Akhtar directed affair. Now with Tanushree Chattrji Bassu making her debut as a director with Manju Lulla's PURANI JEANS, a story about friendship with three principle character played by Tanuj Virwani, Aditya Seal and Izabelle Leite, the comparisons are back again.

"Well yes, I am telling a tale of friendship but then everyone's experiences around that are different. I strongly believe that even if you give the same concept to three directors, each one of them would have a different output. Their vision will be different as they would bring on the table what they have experienced. So even if both DIL CHAHTA HAI and PURANI JEANS is centered on friendship, it is the treatment that would make all the difference," says Tanushri, who has been an experienced ad film maker over the years.

She goes on add, "If you look at DIL CHAHTA HAI, it was a very urban film. On the other hand PURANI JEANS has a small town ambience to it. I can share my own example here. For somebody like me who has grown up in the cantonment area, just to take a car out for a drive was a big thing. I have used the same incident in my film as well where a guy gets a new car and the first thing that he and his friends do is to go out on long drive to catch a rock concert. On the other hand, driving in cool cars or going to concerts and pubs wasn't a big deal in DIL CHAHTA HAI. The boys there had seen and done it all since childhood."

With a 90s setting to it, one now waits to see the kind of improvisation that Tanushri has brought to the proceedings of PURANI JEANS which has music by Ram Sampath and releases all over on 1st May.
