Did the media lie about Aamir Khan blasting CBFC?

Did the media lie about Aamir Khan blasting CBFC?

By Rajesh Kumar Singh, Glamsham Editorial

It was an obvious lie that went viral on Internet and elsewhere. Some newspapers and news channels came up with screaming headlines like 'Aamir Khan blasts CBFC' at FICCI FRAMES inaugural session'. It was an invention of pure imagination.

Contrary to these motivated false reports, Aamir had expressed appreciation for the way the MOS IandB Col. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore had explained to him and the other members of the film industry that CBFC actually means Central Board of Film Certification and it is not a censor board. Its job is to certify films and no list of 'expletives' will be referred to in the certification process.

The issue of blatant 'lying' by the media came up during one of the FICCI FRAMES sessions on 'Freedom of Speech for the Fourth Estate in a Multi-cultural Democracy' attended by the managing Editor of a leading news channel among others. It was pointed out to her that hers was one of the channels that put out the 'Aamir blasts' news, she said whatever Aamir said was there in the footage.

Well known filmmaker Ramesh Sippy who was one of the participants too in the session, immediately countered her and said that Aamir never said anything even remotely like that in the inaugural session. He was in fact very appreciative of the response of the MOS IandB during the session.
