Decoded — Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Karan Johar’s retro look in ‘Bombay Velvet’

The much talked about ‘Bombay Velvet’ trailer is out and treats us with a glamorous 1960s set-up. Actors Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Karan Johar have drastically changed their looks for this period film. Here are some of the styles carried off by the stars in the film:

Ranbir Kapoor – Johnny Balraj, the street fighter

Ranbir carries off a street/cage fighter in a royal yet retro avatar. His ruffled curly hair, falling on his forehead, and prim sunglasses exhibit an appearance we’ve never seen before. He’s sported a ripped body, especially for this role.

Ranbir is seen sporting chequered shirts, heavy fabric coats, pinstripe suits and bow ties. He has made a style statement with sleek, printed silk ties as well. Anushka Sharma – Rosie Noronha, the jazz singer

At a time when jazz got everybody’s foot tapping, Anushka Sharma as a singer dazzles in glittery gowns, feathered head accessories and dark hues. Anushka’s high-fashion look is all about bouffant hairstyles, dramatic hair-dos and red lips. Additionally, she’s also sporting a short, chic hairstyle in some shots.

The actress walks around with elegance with fitted knee-length pencil dresses and scarves. Her derby-wear is classy with an attractive black and white attire, gloves and embellished head gear.

Karan Johar – Kaizad Khambatta, the villain

Karan Johar plays the man with power, and that comes across in his appearance. His sharp coats in pleasant blues, greys and maroons scream sophistication. He portrays the cunning businessman in his all-white suits and gold-rimmed sunglasses.

We think the makers have paid kind attention to detail while deciding the look of all actors. It certainly transports you to an era in the 60s. Even though Ranbir does not look his best, he certainly fits the bill of the character. On the other hand, both Anushka and Karan effortlessly look their charming best.
