So your 2013 resolution was to look as dapper as a suave Saif Ali Khan and as cool as Ranveer Singh?

Looking at style icons and sighing away to misery will be a thing of the past, if you follow these 10 rules below. If you start with these, we will make sure you finish well too.

1. Don’t Look Beyond The Two-Button Suits

Your safest bet when wearing a suit is a two-button. And when you accompany it with gray or black color, you will really have to try hard with other accessories to go wrong. Wear such a suit anywhere, for almost any occasion. The tone of the colour should be subtle, not too dark and not too faded.

2. Bring On The Colours

Throw away the coyness, if you have any. Break the self-implied rules and go to your office in a bright, multicolored shirt. But take care it doesn’t look like one picked from the streets, even if it is. Wear a trouser that is somber and balances the whole look.

3. Dark Brown Shoes

Just like a gray suit, dark brown leather shoes cannot be kept away from the style wardrobe. Your suit might be khaki or any other classy fabric, rely on your gray suit to make you look good.

4. Choose Your Tie Carefully

It’s very easy to go wrong with the tie. Most Indian men pay special attention to the color and pattern of the tie, but ignore how wide or slim it should be. Well, it shouldn’t be extreme. If you are someone on the bulkier side, slim tie should suit you nice. Otherwise, go for ties with at most three inches of width.

5. Shorter Is Smarter

Long jackets give quite a dishevelled appearance. Don’t buy jackets that don’t fit your contours, as longer jackets would most likely be loose at the shoulders as well. Short jackets look ‘crisp’ and fit you the best.

6. Striped Shirts

Striped shirts look good on you in all seasons. Same goes for 2013. Make your choice according to the width and colour of the stripes you want.

7. Colour Yourself Blue

Blue never ceases to make you look good. The light shades would gel beautifully with your looks.

8. Accessorize

Men’s accessories are hot these days. Buy a cool watch for yourself, use a tie bar and cuff links to look a class apart and make your own style statement.

9. Wear The Right Jeans

Don’t go for too skinny jeans. They look girly even with the manliest of shirt on top of them. Buy something that is more than skinny and less than baggy.

10. Beard Up

Go bonkers with your beard. A full-fledged beard, a stubble or French cut, try anything that makes you look mean.

It is 2013, make sure you keep up with the fashion, rather than catch up with it.
