Do You Send Holiday Cards?

I can never decide what time of year is my favorite--summer or these last two months of the year leading up to New Year's. I love all the celebrations, all the food and of course, all the occasions to get dressed up. And for me, that totally includes taking the pic I'll use on our holiday cards. I'm staging our holiday card picture this weekend and I can't wait.

(We're shooting a special pic just for this card--it's one of my top five contenders this year.)

But yesterday I was talking with some of my co-workers and it turns out only one other person sends out holiday cards. Say what?! One person even went so far to say that they are a waste.

Obviously, I beg to differ.

I am chained to my email and Facebook and Twitter as much as the next person, but that's why I relish putting something in the mailbox for my friends and family. Whenever I send someone a handwritten letter or thank you note, they always say it feels a little more serious, dare I say even more special, than an email stamped with "Sent from my iPhone."

So I send out annual holiday cards with that same intention. I put the same thoughtfulness and attention to detail in staging the photo (but making it look as natural and unstaged as possible, of course) as I would writing someone a note. And for me, a $2 card plus the time it takes to shoot the picture and order the cards is hardly a waste if it makes someone I love smile the moment he/she opens it. To me, this time of year is all about reminding people how much they're loved and I send holiday cards hoping to do just that.

Okay, so that's why I send out holiday cards, now what about you? Do you send them or do you agree that they're a waste? Share your thoughts in the comments.

But before you do, just tell me you wouldn't smile--even for a second--if you received even this non-photo holiday card. C'mon...
