Interview: Dubai-based, Filipino designer Michael Cinco on working with Marian Rivera

Last month it was finally revealed who will design Filipina actress and singer Marian Rivera's wedding dress: Dubai's very own Michael Cinco.

Cinco confirmed this to Gulf News tabloid! saying. "I'm excited to make the wedding dress of the very beautiful Marian Rivera."

After his show at the latest edition of Fashion Forward in Dubai, Cinco told Yahoo: "The wedding will be in December, and everything is confidential. But I am honoured and I am happy to be working [with Marian]."

His latest show was inspired by flowers and on Audrey Hepburn's 1964 adaptation of Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady. We wonder if Marian was looking to this Spring-Summer 2015 collection for inspiration?

Cinco, who set up his fashion house in the UAE in 1997, is already a favourite of a plethora of A-listers, including Beyonce, Britney Spears, and Sophia Vergara.

However, there are still some stars who he would love to dress.

"I would love to dress Angelina Jolie or Cate Blanchett," he says. "They're beautiful and so glamourous."

Marian, 29, is to marry heartthrob Dingdong Dantes on December 30, after the actor and producer proposed to her on live TV last month. The high-profile couple had been dating for five years after they met on the set of the popular TV soap MariMar in 2007.

Born to a Spanish father and Filipina mother, Rivera, began her career as a model before moving to acting and producing. She also has two musical albums to her credit and performed in Dubai last year along with a group of Filipino stars. Dantes, also a former model, is one of the most popular stars in the Philippines, known as an actor, producer and TV presenter. (with input from an earlier article by Gulf News)
