The British quartet The Vamps, who recently held a concert at the Mall of Asia Arena, is often compared to the hugely popular One Direction in spite of the fact they perform while holding instruments.

Yahoo Philippines chanced upon an avid fan of the band who happens to be a Filipino-Canadian and a voting member of the Grammy Awards.

Chris "Zacariah" De Guzman, born in Winnipeg, Canada to Filipino parents, expressed admiration for The Vamps and offered his two cents' worth about the group's boy band image.

"They are often compared to the boy band One Direction, but I believe their sound is different. The Vamps are putting a new spin on the coined term 'boy band' with their distinct style and sound," he shared.

Fresh, unique sound

Zacariah, a singer himself, was in the Philippines some years back to promote his own music. He attended the recent Grammy Awards ceremony, having been inducted as a voting member. He currently resides in Los Angeles, California.

Zac's critical approach to listening to music means he has more to say about The Vamps, zeroing in on the group's collaboration with Demo Lovato.

He recalled, "I stumbled upon The Vamps after watching them perform their song 'Somebody to You' featuring Demi Lovato on TV and constantly hearing them on the radio in Los Angeles. I immediately fell in love with their fresh and unique pop-rock boy band sound," he said.

“On a recent trip to London, I realized how big they were after hearing them on the radio ever so often. Then I kept hearing about them opening up for major artists like Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez on their international tours."

Loud and crazy fans

The Vamps is composed of Brad Simpson (lead vocals and guitar), James McVey (lead guitar and vocals), Connor Ball (bass guitar and vocals), and Tristan Evans (drums and vocals).

The group reportedly said that their Filipino fans are the "loudest, craziest" they've seen. And also some of the most avid, as seen in this fan video

Possible Grammy vote?

Some of the well-applauded numbers during their February 1 Manila concert were "Cecilia," "Risk It All," "Somebody to You," and "Wild Heart."

Zac hopes to see The Vamps soon and perhaps vote for them for a future Grammy award, if given the chance.

"They're not your typical boy band and I wish them nothing but success on an international scale! I'm looking forward to hearing them at a show in North America in the near future," Zac said.
