Tale of 2 brides: Boots Anson-Roa and Chanda Romero

Veteran actresses Boots Anson-Roa and Chanda Romero’s recent marriage to their respective partners proves that love knows no age.

Boots, 69, surprised the public earlier this year when she announced she’s getting married again—this time to Atty. Francisco “King” Rodrigo. Her first husband, Pete Roa, died seven years ago.

Boots and King got hitched on June 14 in a church wedding at the Archbishop’s Palace in Mandaluyong City.

Meanwhile, the civil wedding of 59-year-old Chanda Romero and partner Jose Mari “Mayi” Alejandrino on October 25 last year was deliberately quiet, but equally lovely.

The two have been together for seven years before taking their relationship a step further. And they did so twice: first in a commitment ceremony on May 17, 2013 in Tagaytay, and finally in civil rights in Cebu City a few months later.

On second chances

Boots cracked up the crowd during the launch of GMA primetime series “Strawberry Lane” when she talked about her second chance at marriage.

"Pinakita sa’min na second chances matter. And especially sa edad kong ito, 69, at siya ay 75 makakaranas pa pala ako ng tinatawag na ikalawang gloria.”

Chanda, for her part, believes marrying at her age is proof that one should never say never.

"I’ve never been married. At 59, I was married for the first time… so never say never,” adding her sex life has been “great” and is “getting better.”

King, Boots’ ‘nightmare’

Boots made the crowd laugh louder when she shared her and her husband’s wild dream.

"In a light way, madalas pagbiruan namin 'tong mag-asawa, papaano itong panaginip na pwede pang asam-asamin baka sakaling matupad ay mabasbasan pa kami ng isang junior.”

She added, "Kung sakali, alam naming illusion... delusion, maybe not only a dream but a nightmare, but even when it doesn’t come true, it will come true by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
