Scorpions drummer James Kottak jailed in Dubai

Scorpions drummer James Kottak has been jailed in Dubai for one month after he was arrested at Dubai International Airport on April 3.

According to a Gulf News report, the longtime band member was under the influence of alcohol during a stopover when he cursed Muslims, made an indecent gesture to a group of passengers, and removed his trousers at the airport. The American is also said to have insulted policemen.

Kottak was flying from Russia to Bahrain to perform at the 2014 Formula One Gulf Air Grand Prix after-race concert when he was arrested. The German hard rock band went on with the show, with Mark Cross replacing Kottak.

Meanwhile, Kottak’s last tweet was on April 3 when he had posted he was travelling to Bahrain.

The 51-year-old has been fined AED 2,000 for drinking and will be deported. He admitted to drinking, but denied gesturing indecently in public and cursing Muslims. His lawyer had earlier argued that Kottak did not commit an indecent act, but only wanted to show his tattoo on his back to the public.
