Robert Zemeckis Will Make TV for Paramount

Robert Zemeckis has signed a first-look deal with Paramount Television, giving the studio first whack at any projects developed by Zemeckis’ Compari Entertainment.

Their first project together will be a drama series based on “The Fermata,” a best-selling novel about a man who uses his ability to stop time for sexual dalliances. David Hollander, who created “The Guardian,” will adapt Nicholson Baker's book.

Zemeckis and Paramount have a long history together on the film side. Paramount released “Forrest Gump,” for which Zemeckis won Best Director, and “Flight,” Zemeckis’ most recent movie.

“Not only is Bob one of the all-time greatest filmmakers but he has been an important member of the Paramount family for more than 20 years,” Brad Grey, chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures, said in a statement. “His ability to tell and capture a story so brilliantly on any screen is second to none and we look forward to partnering creatively with him, Jack and their team on the television side of our business.”

Grey works closely with Amy Powell, head of Paramount Television.

“I know Brad and Amy share a deep appreciation for creating inspired entertainment and I look forward to making great television together,” Zemeckis said in a statement.
