Miss Earth 2014: Miss Slovenia Patricia Peklar

What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose this?

"The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quite alone with the heavens, nature, and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be, and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature. As longs as this exists, and it certainly always will, I know that there will always be comfort for every sorrow, whatever the circumstances may be. And I firmly believe that nature brings solace in all troubles.”

This is the message with which I can truly attach with in my heart (sic) and is from the book "Anne Frank: Diary of the Young Girl."

Nature gives us a chance to reconnect with our souls. We should be blessed that we have ability to live in such an amazing planet as Earth is. We often forget that we share it with other living beings, we take it for granted, and we care just about ourselves. There exists a quote that when the last tree has been cut down, the last fish caught, the last river poisoned, only then will we realize that one cannot eat money.

I was aware of these things, but [after] becoming Miss Earth, I started educating myself even more about the environment and how to take care for it. I realized we have to decide by making small steps every single day such has going to work or school on a bike instead of car, recycling, switching off lights, etc. and make them manageable. I want to do these things as they are logical and vital as breathing is.

What tip can you share to promote this year's theme, Eco Tourism?

Explore the extraodinary natural diversity and wilderness of planet Earth responsibly and do it eco friendly — do it the green way.
