Lena Dunham Reacts to Naked Critics – Makes, Deletes Molestation Joke on Twitter

The often-transgressive Lena Dunham admits she went too far this time and once again it's about that getting-naked stuff.

The “Girls” doyenne was under fire from some Twitter users for her “SNL” performance on Sunday night, which included a bit with her getting naked (and Bobby Moynihan flashing her during the monologue). A Twitterer told her, “you don't always have to get naked.” ”Please tell that to my uncle, mister.” Dunham tweeted back. “He's been making me!”

Quickly realizing she may have crossed the line, Dunham deleted the tweet but not before BuzzFeed's Rachel Zarrell archived it.

Dunham came clean about deleting her tweet and apologized to those who were offended by the joke. But it's not the first time the writer-director has recently reacted strongly when challenged about her approach to nudity.

“I just made and deleted a not so great molestation joke,” she wrote. “Sorry guys. I am really sleepy.”

“SNL has a way bigger audience than our usual cozy girls audience,” she added. “So I was seeing a rash of very different kinds of twitter rage. But I should know better, and do. Even naked girls get embarrassed. Sleep well and thanks for an amazing weekend.”

Another Dunham critic slammed her excuse. “I really don't think you'd be cutting anyone else any slack if they made that joke and then blamed it on being “really sleepy,” @camelemoji wrote.

“Not if they were a fifty year old man,” Dunham responded. “But by my lights women can have a lot of joke flexibility. Ya gotta get by in this world.”

Fellow comedienne Mindy Kaling came to her defense on Twitter.

“You're perfect,” she wrote. “F*ck ‘em.”

On SNL, Dunham stripped down for a skit that spoofed the release of Biblical films “Noah” and “Son of God.” The skit envisioned Dunham in a big-screen retelling of the Adam and Eve tale, with Dunham appearing in the buff (though blurred) for the re-creation.
