Kris Aquino on life and love in 2014

Kris Aquino’s life is never ho-hum. And the ‘Queen of All Media’ lived up to that reputation in 2014. She had a brief romance with Quezon City mayor Herbert Bautista and seen close friend Boy Abunda get sick and recover. She and James Yap, her son Bimby’s father, became friends again.

No wonder Kris can look back at the year about to end and smile because of all the lessons it gave her.

“I learned the value of life because of what happened to Boy. Napatunayan ko sa sarili ko ang devotion ko sa trabaho. August noon. Ang tagal naming pinlano ang vacation. Pero we chose to forego that (because she had to go back to Manila at once to fill in for Boy’s absence in their show). Hindi biro yon na four days lang ako sa New York,” she told media after the presscon of her Metro Filmfest entry, “Feng Shui.”

Politics and family

Kris Aquino, Coco Martin and director Chito Rono are not just co-workers in Feng Shui. They're also business partners.

Lesson two deals with politics and family.

“As far as political popularity is concerned, ang daming ups and downs. At your core is the family. You know you’re there for each other. Pag alam mo na down (ang isa), dapat gawin lahat ng magagawa mo para bumangon para sa ikagaganda ng lahat.”

Heart matters also matter.

“It’s beyond your control because it takes two to make (a relationship) successful. If you’re not on the same page kahit ikaw, truthful, magkakaiwanan kayo. Dapat no looking back but forward in everything.”

The mother of two (to Joshua and Bimby) also shared her learnings about work-life balance.

Extra proud

“It’s not enough that I’m a great provider. I must be an ever-present source of love and care. Super ganda nga ng bahay nyo. Ang sasarap ng pagkain nyo. Comfortable kayo. Pero, kung mag-isa ka lang kumakain, what’s the point? You must know how to balance. Kung di ako makakauwi for dinner, sila (her sons) ang pupunta kung nasaan ako. Kahit umuwi ako ng 6 a.m. at paalis si Bim (for school), hihintayin ko siya, kahit naggagatas siya. At least nakita nya na nandon ang nanay nya.”

Finally, Kris is extra proud of what she did in bringing Bimby, James and Joshua even closer together.

“Super proud ako they’re on the same page. Polite si Bim talaga sa tatay niya, sa kamag-anak ng tatay nya. Hindi madali ang journey na pinagdaanan namin. Basta happy ako, okay na kay Bim. To James’ credit, ginagawan niya ng time. Every Friday, naghahanap siya ng oras. Kung may shooting si Bim (for “My Big Bossings”), punta siya sa shooting. Kung hindi, basketball sila. It’s the gift of time.”

Kris is happy. And it shows, not just on her face, but in her sons.

Walang angst

“Feeling nila, walang angst ang nanay nila. Happy sila.”

Kris would love to play mom to KathNiel (Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla) and Kim Chiu because she is a happy mom. And she knows taking care of herself is part of her duty as a mother who looks forward to spending more years with her sons.

She sleeps eight hours a day (“If it’s less than eight hours, I turn into a ‘monster”), doesn’t smoke, drink or party, drinks five liters of water daily and believes in fresh green and carrot apple juice.

And because 2014 is, as usual, a year of blessings, the “Feng Shui” co-producer (along with Star Cinema) is giving back again. Kris is granting Joshua’s wish to play resident Sta. Claus by giving him money for the household staff.

The award-winning talk show host has chosen a Christmas gift that fits her loquacious self : a brand-new bell that would summon the faithful to go to Baclaran church.

Giving back

“I have a devotion to Our Lady of Perpetual Help sa Baclaran. Humingi sila ng tulong for the rebuilding of their bell tower. Sabi ko sa priest doon na friend ko, ako ang mabibigay non. Fitting lang naman kasi maingay ako.”

Kidding aside, Kris believes in putting God above all else.

“Unahin muna si God. Apart from helping our fellowmen, pagandahan natin ang House of God.”

This sense of responsibility extends to Kris’ many endorsements.

“Part of the package is for me to help others.”

In blessing others, Kris is getting a shower of blessings in return.
