Jessica Simpson Looks INCREDIBLE: The Secret Behind Her Hot New Body

That's some hard work she's put in - CONGRATULATIONS J-Simp!

Jessica Simpson loves a bit of Instagram.

Which is GREAT news for us, because it means we've been given a brilliant, personal peek into her fitness and weightloss journey.

As you probably know already, 34-year-old Jess has been a spokesperson for Weight Watchers since 2012.

And in the 14 months since giving birth to her son Ace, she's lost well over 50 pounds, a sure sign that her Weight Watchers meal plans have been paying off.

However, we're not simply interested in how much she's shed post-pregnancy. After looking at these latest Instagram images, of her posing at a party to celebrate sister Ashlee's upcoming nuptuals, it's Jess' muscle definition we're all lusting after!

Ever since the "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels" mantra was replaced in popular culture with the much more edifying message "strong is the new skinny", women all over the place have been hitting the gym, in a bid to tone up.

And taking a look at the beautifully defined muscles on Jess' legs and arms in some of these recent snaps, it seems that Jess' hot new bod isn't simply the result of clever dieting, but plenty of hard work in and around the gym too.

Indeed, according to a source in Closer magazine this week, not only does Jess eat "extremely small portions", including just "protein and veg for dinner", she also "works out five times a week" and regularly "goes for five mile runs."

How About Those Legs

We spoke to health expert, sports scientist and trainer John Dent, of Fresh Health, about the real secrets behind Jess' killer body.

"Jessica Simpson has obviously embraced a fully integrated approach to her health," said John.

"Ultimately, nutrition is your foundation. It is the base from which you are able to complete a really challenging workout and recover from it," he went on.

"But nutrition will only get you so far, if you want to be strong and lean," he continued.

"Only with proper strength training - whereby you increase your muscle mass, and in turn your metabollic rate - will you be able to transform your body from a two litre engine into a five litre lean burn machine," John concluded.

We asked John to take a look at Jessica's toned legs and to give us his fitness diagnosis.

"We're talking squats, lunges, multi-directional lunges and multi-directional squats," he said.

"It is crucially important to understand," he continued," that the physiology of a man and a woman are very different."

"As a woman, you will have just two thirds of the muscle mass of a man. So, if you're worried about 'bulking up' like a man, know that you'd probably have to supplement with testosterone and human growth hormone in order to do so."

In fact, on the contrary, he explained to us - far from turning you into a balloon animal, weights training is really the only way to achieve the sort of definition you can see in Jess' legs.

And What About Arms

Undoubtedly, Jess has some pretty darn good arms on her too.

We asked John to comment on this.

"Resistence exercises," said John, "are hugely important. If you don't have access to equipment, you can use your own body weight. This could mean hanging from a bar and trying to pull yourself up."

"Or putting yourself in a push-up position, trying one armed push-ups, or even just balancing on one arm in a push up position and holding it for ten seconds on each side," he surmised.

"These are what I would call 'Big Bang Exercises' - because it's not just about the strength in the arms, the upper body and the chest, it's about stabilising throughout your whole spine," John finished.

"Also, a focus on good posture shows her physique off to the max."

A Word About Nutrition

While obviously Jess has done fabulously well following the plan that Weight Watchers set for her, John had some words of advice for anyone considering a change in nutrition.

Essentially, that the same diet plan won't work for everyone.

"What foods your body responds to differs from person to person, depending on your genetic predisposition" said John.

"The nutritional advice that I use with people is based on metabollic typing. If you are someone that does very well on carbohydrates, for example, then you might thrive from a slightly higher concentration of carbs in your diet. Or, if you are someone like myself, who is considered to be a fast oxisider, I do a slightly higher protein and fats combination."

"If, after a workout, you consume carbohydrates, or protein, pay close attention to what your body is telling you. A lot of the time there is a disconnect between calories and fuel. Diet is about more than just replenishing your duel tank," he continued.

"Watch for which combination of foods make you feel more energetic and adjust accordingly, while still keeping a close eye on your portion sizes, alcohol intake, etcetera," John finished.
