Gloc-9 was the big winner at the 2014 MYX Music Awards, held Wednesday evening, March 26, at the Samsung Hall of SM Aura in Taguig.

The rapper took home 4 of the silver TV trophies for his song “Magda”: for favorite music video, song, urban video and collaboration.

All four times, he was accompanied onstage by Rico Blanco, who got his own trophy for being the guest vocalist on the song and on the video.

Shared with ‘kapatid na rappers’

“Salamat sa Panginoon,” Gloc-9 repeatedly mentioned during his acceptance speeches.

Receiving the Favorite Urban Video award, he said he was sharing his award with “kapatid na rappers and urban artists—alam ko ang tindi ng hirap niyo.”

He was especially pleased that since he won in the Favorite Song category in 2013 for his song “Sirena,” he saw how the genres of OPM have expanded.

Parokya ni Edgar are hall of famers

Parokya ni Edgar provided the other highlight of the two-hour awards show, which was aired live on TV and streamed online.

Vocalist Chito Miranda, guitarist Darius Semaña and bassist Buwi Meneses (the other members were vacationing in Japan) were on hand to receive the MYX Magna Award for 2014.

The local music video show’s version of the Hall of Fame, the Magna Award is given to groundbreaking acts that have shaped the local music scene. Last year, Eraserheads received the award.

Speechless

“I’m speechless, for once,” said the Miranda, who is often fast on his quips. He made the remark after Parokya members were led on stage, following an all-star tribute that had Raimund Marasigan, Yeng Constantino, Barbie Almalbis, Abra, Ebe Dancel, Gloc-9 and Rico Blanco, among others, singing Parokya’s well-loved hits.

Then, reverting to his usual self, he said of the tribute, “Akala namin mamatay na kami.”

He added, “I guess it shows na matanda na kami.” Parokya ni Edgar celebrated its 20th year as a band in 2013.
