Echosmith is totally adorbs in their video interview

The Sierota siblings speaking from left to right: Noah, Sydney, Jamie and Graham

On August 31, Sunday, Echosmith will play in SMX for the second day of Bazooka Rocks Indoor Music Festival.

Raised in a musical household, the Sierota siblings (bassist Noah, vocalist Sydney, guitarist Jamie, and drummer Graham) are influenced by U2, Coldplay, Fleetwood Mac, and even Joy Division and The Smiths.

The result is a sound somewhere between friendly Californian sunniness and British melancholy: on the hit single “Cool Kids” for example, new wave-ish synths and surf-toned guitars surround Sydney’s winsome voice that culminates in a wispy falsetto.

First time outside of North America

Their debut album “Talking Dreams” is finely crafted indie pop produced by Mike Elizondo (known for his work with Eminem, Mastodon, Tegan& Sara, and Fiona Apple).

And for a band barely in their twenties (at 21, Jamie is the eldest; 15 year old Graham just entered high school), it is a promising first opus that has resulted a growing loyal fan base.

This is Echosmith’s first time anywhere in Asia; Sydney adds that this is their first time outside North America which has seen the band on two Vans Warped Tours and opening slots for Owl City, Neon Trees, and Twenty One Pilots.

Totally normal

Despite a full day of radio and press interviews and a successful gig in Venice Piazza the previous day, the band remains chipper and forthcoming with answers, particularly Sydney and Noah.

Their bright-eyed appreciation for their ascending success is perhaps partially due to their youth and also tempered by their parents’ guidance and support: their father Jeffery David is also the band’s co-manager and co-writer.

In short, Echosmith is a happy family affair and Sydney refers to her brothers as her favorite collaborators, with the expected and utterly normal conflicts recognized as due to exhaustion and solved with sleep and food.
