Doug Belgrad Promoted to President of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group

Doug Belgrad has been named President of the Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group, the company announced on Wednesday.

Already President of Columbia Pictures, Belgrad will add several new responsibilities to his portfolio. According to Sony, he will “integrate creative decision-making, business and financial planning across all of the Motion Picture Group labels,” as well as “assume additional responsibilities in business affairs and music,” and “supervise the studio's local language film production operations.”

Belgrad, who joined Sony in 1989, will report to Amy Pascal, the Chair of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group and Co-Chair of Sony Pictures Entertainment.

“Doug is an outstanding leader with a deep understanding of the motion picture business. He has a rare combination of taste, relationships, experience and business judgment,” Pascal said in a statement. “Michael and I are thrilled we are going to continue to benefit from all of these qualities by expanding his purview in the Motion Picture Group.”

Belgrad was involved in many of Sony's biggest hits, including the “Men In Black” franchise; Adam Sandler‘s Columbia films; recent Oscar nominees such as “Zero Dark Thirty,” “Captain Phillips,” and “American Hustle.”
