Tremors felt in UAE after quake in Iran

Tremors of up to 4.0 magnitude were felt across the UAE on Tuesday following an earthquake in Iran, officials at UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology & Seismology (NCMS) confirmed.

The tremors struck at 9:44 am, following a 5.1 magnitude earthquake in Qeshm in southern Iran.

The impact of the quake was felt most in Ras Al Khaimah, at approximately 4.0 on the Richter scale, NCMS said, adding that Dubai and the northern emirates were affected as well.

"I was sitting at my desk and suddenly it felt like someone was constantly bumping into my chair. After that I noticed my water bottle rippling and the someone in the office said 'earthquake'," he told Yahoo Maktoob.

"People evacuated immediately and we gathered at our office assembly point and waited for 10 -15 mins before heading back."

Andrea Cornel, a human resources executive who also works in Dubai Media City, said she felt mild tremors but her office did not evacuate.

"We were on alert mode and waited for instructions from the HR department, who might have checked with building security. They then came to back to us to confirm it is safe to remain where we are," she said.
